Si Thu
Si Thu (b.1997) is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Yangon, Myanmar, whose practice is deeply rooted in the life sciences. Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany from the University of Yangon, he uniquely bridges scientific observation with artistic expression. Following the profound societal shifts after 2020, drawing emerged as his essential safe space and a vital medium for personal healing. Integrating his botanical knowledge with personal and collective narratives, Si Thu utilizes plants and organic forms as symbols and abstract forms to explore complex themes of health, mental wellness, spirituality, and environmental consciousness. His work often experiments with accessible and found materials, transforming physical limitations into symbols of human resilience, adaptation, and quiet strength. Through his individual creations, exhibitions, and dedicated community art-based healing initiatives, Si Thu strives to foster a supportive ecosystem where art serves as a powerful catalyst for collective growth and recovery.
